That could quite possibly explain a lot.
ANYHOO. Checking in on You-Tube the other day it was discovered that the whole homepage had a new design. This saddened me. That is nothing new though, change always upsets me, unless of course, it's money. But I digress. Back to the Dr. Suess thing. Whilst wallowing in sorrow for the homepage and favicon regenerating, Green Eggs and Ham played around in my head, and that somehow turned into this poem about loathing new designs!
It is not meant to pertain to You-Tube alone, as it also upsets me when other sites change their designs as well. It's more of an in general loathing all changes to websites that don't need to be fixed because they are loved just the way they are sort of thing. And then the new design will be gotten use to, only to be changed again. It's like an infinite loop.

Epic Galactic Action Battle Voyage to Planet Volcan-O

Captain Lewis must cast The Great Pebble into the fires of a volcano in order to scourer the galaxy of evilness!
-----
On one particular weekend in August, while waiting for my room to be painted, decided to amuse myself by making a stop-motion. Once again, another project which got completely out-of-hand, turning into WAY more than what was bargained for. The animation was only suppose to be about 5 minutes in length at the most, yet here I am, a few months later with a film close to half-an-hour long...! I love stop-motions, but had never done one to this extent before. Heck, not even half of this extent. It was a huge challenge and learning experience. Not to mention, been wanting to do something like this with my action figures for SO LONG now, hehe! :]
On a side note, I'm perfectly aware that the animation is anything but smooth. *Sigh*... But practice makes perfect, so maybe someday I'll get better at it.
Thank you for viewing!
Copyright The March Studios © Jorgé 2011

Splendiferous

Here is a spur-of-the moment type of video I made today, (inspired by this.)

I've also been tediously working on a stop-motion for the past months, which is nearing completion. I'll say this, they don't teach you the interesting parts of history in school. The textbooks condense everything into horribly selective, boring hogwash.
I love to read, but for the past few years I've not come across a book to meet my expectations, and therefore have a difficult time in finishing it. I had tried to read "Treasure Island", but found it tediously dull. I had tried to read "Star Trek Academy: Collision Course" by William Shatner, and got to page 297 on that. But Alas! After watching the reboot film, the book seemed pointless and so I put it down. Successfully I did manage to read both Charlie Chaplin and George M. Cohan's autobiography's, but both took forever.
Perhaps I made a mistake in reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy so early on, as they created a certain standard. I could not put those books down. The deep descriptions Tolkien gave, the poems and humor were utterly delightful. The only other books I've enjoyed almost as thoroughly had been the Inheritance trilogy (though the second book dragged some)
This all being said, I've longed to find a book that could not be put down. Little did I know history books would reawaken that passion.
I owe my new fascination with history to Meriwether Lewis. It is the interest I've had in him which drew me to read as many articles online as I could. Finally, this form of research was not good enough, I needed more, so the buying of books began.
It first started as wanting to know more about Lewis' mysterious death. I bought a biography about James Wilkinson, to figure whether or not he was capable of requesting for an assassination be made on Lewis. Soon enough, I became so enthralled by Wilkinson's story my main goal of reading it had now become the second.
By reading about Wilkinson, a desire sparked to learn about George Washington, Benedict Arnold, Arron Burr, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, etc. Wilkinson had connected with them all in one point of his life or another.
Usually, when I gain an interest in something it has the ability to turn into a full throttle obsession. Fortunately, the obsession right now is history, so for the first time I'm educating myself whilst exploring to the fullest extent my latest fascination.
I feel like a little kid in a candy store. There's just so much history. I want to consume it all.
Erm, ANYHOO. Meriwether Lewis.
It has come to my attention that there is not enough art out there of him, aka excuse for me to draw Meriwether Lewis art!
This particular cartoon sketch was a test to see if I could even capture the look I wanted. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.
FYI, The eye color is based off of the Charles Willson Peale painting... I couldn't figure out whether they were blue or green, so settled for something in-between.
And now to present some further ramblings from yours truly (that would be me, Jorgé) regarding Meriwether Lewis.
----------------
Unless there is actual PROOF to support otherwise, I believe Meriwether Lewis had perished at the hands of an assassin.
The alternate plausibility of murder holds up as equally as the mainstream idea of suicide. It does not stretch logic, and there is yet no evidence that could dismiss it.
Lewis did not leave a suicide note. After studying his character as I've been doing, it is in my opinion without question that he would have.
Who would have wanted to kill Lewis? Oh, there are so many logical possibilities.
Robert Grinder, the owner of Grinder's Stand. It was not unheard of back then for Innkeepers to slay guests for their cash. Lewis was carrying a hefty sum of it with him, and after his death it mysteriously disappeared.
Grinder's wife, who claims her husband was not at home during Lewis' stay, came up with various accounts of the tragic event concerning his death.
Peculiar enough, some years after, the Grinder's received a substantial amount of money from an unknown source, and moved away.
James Wilkinson.
Before considering Wilkinson as a highly possible suspect, I did extensive research on the man to learn of his character. And it must be confessed, I enjoyed looking into his life, because he was so interesting. When you think of traitor, Benedict Arnold is the one which comes to mind. Though, take a deeper gander into the facts of history instead of just what the textbooks tell you, and it is rather appalling to think we are taught Arnold as America's betrayer when it should rightfully be Wilkinson.
James Wilkinson was pretentious, charming, driven and intelligent. He was Commander in Chief of the United States Army, and Agent 13 for the Spanish Secret Service. If his ties to Spain were revealed and confirmed, it was treason and he could have faced death. I say "could", because the Politicians had a way of scurrying around the law (or otherwise, yes, for treason it would have meant certain death.)
Many times Wilkinson came within a hair of confirming ties with Spain. In fact, everyone was aware of the accusations and rumors, but it was another thing to find PROOF to back such claims up. James Wilkinson was lucky.
One person who defended Wilkinson was Thomas Jefferson. In turn, Wilkinson never had a bad thing to say about him. (James Madison, however, brought charges against Wilkinson when his time as President came. Though Wilkinson slid by yet again, no doubt his spirit had finally broken.)
The fact Jefferson defended Wilkinson leads me to question his own judgment of character. (Admittedly, I need to read up more on Jefferson himself to better understand best I can of his mind. But for now, the little assessment I have will need to do.)
Thomas Jefferson easily accepted the news that Meriwether Lewis had committed suicide. Because Jefferson accepted it without question, that was it.
Yes, he was a Founding Father. The 3rd President of the United States. Though this did not make all of his assumptions automatically correct, James Wilkinson proves that.
William Clark also accepted the news of Lewis' suicide, who wrote "I fear O' I fear the weight of his mind has overcome him...."
With Jefferson and Clark, both friends of Lewis, convinced of the suicide, there seems need to take their word for it. After all, we just assume if anyone knew the character of Meriwether Lewis, it would be those two.
Again, I need to do more reading up of Clark. But as far as I can gather, he was a simple, good ol' kind of guy. Clark's journal entries are a stark difference from that of Lewis'. Meriwether Lewis had the heart of a poet. He was lyrical, passionate, detailed, expressive, emotional (And for these traits, Lewis has been stamped as manic depressive as an explanation to his apparent suicide, among other things.)
I personally believe Lewis' philosophical depth would have gone over Clark's head. Clark would have sympathized for Lewis, but no way was it possible for him to empathize. It is in that form of opinion I believe Clark meant what he said on regards to Lewis' sudden and tragic death, but by no means should we look at his words to be a confirmation of such.
Supposedly, there is a lore passed down through the Clark family through the generations, that later on William had expressed doubts of his friend having killed himself.
Now to turn back around, and return to the spot with James Wilkinson.
Why connect James Wilkinson to Meriwether Lewis?
Spain had sold the Louisiana Territory to France. France thus turned around and sold the territory to the United States. Next up, Jefferson called upon Meriwether Lewis to head an expedition. There had been more to this expedition then Jefferson publicly let be known though, and Wilkinson had the insight. As Agent 13, Wilkinson informed his Spanish connections of Jefferson's full plans for this expedition. Wilkinson told them to "detach a sufficient body of chasseurs to intercept Captain Lewis and his party... and force them to retire or take them prisoners." Thanks to Wilkinson's warning, there were at least three attempts made to either kill or capture the Lewis and Clark party. (Most of this information I've gathered from Andro Linklater's "An Artist In Treason" Such a book I highly recommend. And if at any time, my information is misinformed or questionable, I'd much like to be made aware as to find what is the truth.)
Wilkinson obviously had no regard for what would happen to Captain Lewis and his party, even to the extent of death. Then again, Wilkinson was Wilkinson. If it furthered his career or kept him from being exposed as a traitor, Wilkinson would throw anyone under the bus, even his friends, without a second thought.
To save his career and reputation, Wilkinson threw Arron Burr under that bus, as well as called out other people which knew of his Spanish connections. By doing so, Wilkinson came out looking like a patriot to some. Though Wilkinson managed to save his career, his reputation had been tarnished by accusations of conspiring with Burr.
Meriwether Lewis had succeeded James Wilkinson as Governor of the Louisiana Territory in 1807. In that very same year and so on, Wilkinson's life began to unravel. "Nancy" Ann Biddle, Wilkinson's beloved wife had passed away. Arron Burr was pressing Wilkinson for execution of their plot. It is during this time that Wilkinson had been stuck between a rock and a hard place. Instead of performing the task with Burr, it is at this point Wilkinson turned around and betrayed him. Wilkinson took everyone down that knew of his connections.
Meriwether Lewis was present at the Burr conspiracy trial, as Jefferson's personal representative.
It is not far-fetched to ponder if Lewis had came up with evidence of Wilkinson's treason while serving as Governor, the very seat in which Wilkinson had previously occupied. Perhaps Lewis pieced together the three Spanish assaults and Wilkinson's rumored ties to Spain? After all, who else would have known of Jefferson's plans, and in turn, told Spain?
1809, Lewis was deep in political troubles. There is this idea that he was a terrible Governor, and though that may be so, from my own perspective this is because he was not a politician. Politicians are malicious, and will bend whichever way for political gain, seeking what best benefits them. The film "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" comes to mind. Look at how the politicians destroyed Mr. Smiths character. Perhaps Meriwether Lewis would have been a great Governor had the politicians not stopped him from executing certain acts.
Lewis was extremely upset by a letter he received from the Government. In turn, he wrote President Madison a lengthy, emotional note. To which contained
"I have been informed Representations have been made against me,-all I wish is a full and fair investigation. I anxiously wish that this may reach you in time to prevent any decision relative to me. I shall leave the Territory in the most perfect state of tranquility which I believe, it has ever experienced. I find it impossible at this moment, to explain by letter...." and "Be assured Sir, that my country can never make "A Burr" of me-She may reduce me to poverty, but she can never sever my attachment from her."
It is in my opinion that those are not the words of a man who is prepared to take his own life. Rather, a man extremely upset by the maliciousness of politics against his character, and determined to set things right. And so, Mr. Lewis goes to Washington.
Not only had Meriwether Lewis set off for Washington to explain his political jam to the President, but he also took with him papers intended for publishing. Would it be surprising if information about Wilkinson had traveled with him? This is something so sensitive that he would certainly not have been able to write in a letter.
Lewis' original path was to go through New Orleans, but his mind suddenly changed and instead went through the Natchez Trace, a very dangerous area at the time. Was this because James Wilkinson was present in New Orleans? We will never know.
On his way to Washington, the only people that can account for Lewis' mental health are Captain Gilbert Russell and Major James Neelly. Both men had been appointed by James Wilkinson.
When Lewis arrived on boat at Fort Pickering (present-day Memphis) Captain Gilbert Russell saw that Lewis was in an unfit state to continue on his journey, and so detained him. After Lewis' death, Russell wrote two letters to Thomas Jefferson. The first dated January 4, 1810, and briefly mentioned how he had detained Lewis due to his condition, and then went on to write about sale of land that Lewis owned, and baggage he had left at the fort. Letter #2, dated January 31st, 1810, Russell provides more detail. Stating that Lewis had a problem with alcohol, and when denied it at the fort, his symptoms cleared up and he was fine.
There had been a third letter written two years later, as a formal statement from Captain Russell,
"On the morning of the 15th of September, the Boat in which he was a passenger landed him at Fort Pickering in a state of mental derangement, which appeared to have been produced as much by indisposition as other causes. The Subscriber being then the commanding Officer of the Fort on discovering his situation, and learning from the Crew that he had made two attempts to kill himself, in one of which he had nearly succeeded, resolved at once to take possession of him and his papers, and detain them there until he recovered, or some friend might arrive in whose hands he could depart in safety" It was discovered much later that this third letter was a forgery.
Coincidentally, just a few days after Lewis arrived at Fort Pickering, Major James Neelly, who had just been appointed Chickasaw Indian agent by Wilkinson, showed up at the fort on September the 18th. Lewis left off with him and their two servants. From then on, Neelly was the only person who could attest to Lewis' behavior during the trip, up until his death. Neelly stated that when he arrived at the fort, Lewis was found in very bad health. On the 18th of October Neelly wrote a letter to Jefferson, "have recovered his health in some degree at the Chickasaw Bluffs, we set out together. And on our arrival at the Chickasaw nation I discovered that he appeared at times deranged in mind."
On the morning of October 10th, Neelly disappeared to go look for two horses that had escaped them, and let Lewis go on ahead with the servants. He wasn't seen again until after Lewis had died. If Meriwether Lewis was, in fact, deranged in mind and or suicidal, why would Neelly not stay by his side? Lewis was an important man after all... if the claims are true, wasn't it foolish on Neelly's part to be so careless? Lewis arrived at the Grinder house at sun set.
In the same letter from October 18th to Jefferson, Neelly also wrote "One days Journey after crossing Tennessee River & where we encamped we lost two of our horses. I remained behind to hunt them & the governor proceeded on, with a promise to wait for me at the first houses he came to that was inhabited by white people; he reached the house of a Mr. Grinder about sun set, the man of the house being from home, and no person there but a woman who discovering the governor to be deranged, gave him up the house & slept herself in one near it. His servant and mine slept in the stable loft some instance from the other houses. The woman reports that about three o’Clock she heard two pistols fire off in the Governors Room: the servants being awakined by her, came in but too late to save him. He had shot himself in the head with one pistol & a little below the Breast with the other-when his servant came in he says; I have done the business my good Servant give me some water. He gave him water, he survived but a short time. I came up sometime after, and had him as decently Buried as I could in that place-if there is any thing wished by his friends to be done to his grave I will attend to their Instructions. I have got in my possession his two trunks of papers (amongst which is said to be his travels to The pacific Ocean) and probably some Vouchers for expenditures of Public Money for a Bill which he said had been protested by the Secy. Of War; and of which act to his death, he repeatedly complained. I have also in my Care his Rifle, Silver watch, Brace of Pistols, dirk & tomahawk; one of the Governors horses was lost in the wilderness which I will endeavour to regain, the other I have sent on by his servant who expressed a desire to go to the governors Mothers & to Monticello: I have furnished him with fifteen Dollars to Defray his expences to Charlottsville; Some days previous to the Governors death he requested of me in case any accident happen to him, to send his trunks with the papers therein to the President but I think very probable he meant to you. I wish to be informed what arrangements may be considered best in sending on his trunks &c. I have the honor to be with Great respect Yr. Ob. Sert."
Neelly had been the one to question Mrs. Grinder and the servants about this tragic event. He was satisfied with their testimony's. He was the one who examined the wounds on the body, and determined it was a suicide. He had been the one to bury the body and took possession of Lewis' items.
Or at least Neelly said he did. Neelly couldn't have been at Grinder's Stand as he had claimed to Jefferson in the letter. There are Tennessee court documents placing Neelly 20 hours away from the Grinder location. He couldn't have been in two places at once, which concludes right there he had the ability to lie.
Meriwether Lewis was an experienced marksmen and served as doctor on the expedition. If he had intended to perish by his own hand, Lewis would have not been so horribly incompetent, and instead would have succeeded on the first shot. Not twice; once in the gut, the other in the head, and then only to spend the next few hours of his life in agony.
Meriwether Lewis was an extraordinary person. His apparent suicide has casted a shadow, not over what he did, but who he was. I am extremely skeptical of the events that took place in the fall of 1809, as it is nothing but hearsay. Until there is physical evidence (or something I find EXTREMELY substantial while doing further research that would be powerful enough to sway my opinion), I'll gladly play the lawyer on behalf of the deceased Meriwether Lewis to clear his name.
In 1848 Lewis' body was exhumed, so they could determine if it had been the correct remains as so they could place his monument in the correct location. Examining the wounds, the doctor concluded that Meriwether Lewis had perished by probable assassination, not by his own hand as was traditionally thought.
No one seems to care.
Is such a thing fair?
We seem to choose
to let heroes lose.

~~~~
One of my most precious childhood keepsakes would be a little green music box that plays "Toyland". That tune had a profound affect on me as a child. Thanks to it, realization of someday growing up hit me hard. This thought had been disturbing to no end, as there was nothing I could do to help the inevitable.
Back then, 20 seemed so old and so far away. Would I let myself down, and turn into a boring adult? Would I rid myself of childish possessions? Would what was precious to me be tossed to the side and eventually forgotten? Would I abandon the imagination and wonderment that so enthralled my childhood? These were the thoughts that bounced around in my mind.
But now, I find myself approaching 20 in less than a year... To which some weeks ago, it hit me, "Hey. I MADE IT! FIVE-YEAR-OLD-SELF WOULD BE SO PROUD."
So, between wanting to rejoice over my achievement in an odd conceptual way, love of pantomimes that have the ability of expressing things in a bittersweet and or eerie form, my recent streak of being productive and urge to create-- this was made!
Thank you for viewing!
Neil Sedaka: The Awkward Made-For-Internet-Movie
For three long months, I had been busily occupied with making a new video. Flowers! And More Flowers!
I've always been more of an "Indoor-Plant Person". Don't get me wrong, flowers are beautiful and I love them. But they depress me terribly. One moment, they are so beautiful, and then the next, they wither away and die. I have dried-up flowers sitting in vases around my room, because I became emotionally attached to them and cannot bear to throw them away. And every time I look at them, it's a constant reminder of why flowers depress me in the first place. I will not allow myself to have a favorite flower, because that involves becoming attached to a certain species of flower, and then my heart would get broken countless of times over. (But if I DID allow myself... it would probably be Pansies or Tulips. Or something that looked like a trumpet. Oh, or something round and fuzzy.)
This is why I prefer house plants. Unless you forget to water them or something, they stay pretty immortal. I have a few African Violet plants. But for some reason, when their flowers wither away, it doesn't sadden me. I have a theory that this is because of the way my brain interprets the African Violet. My brain does not register the African Violet as a flower, but rather a plant which on occasion bears flowers. And yes, believe me, there is a difference. The flower is but an ornament on my plant. Nothing depressing about that.
Though it's probably unnecessary, I shall note my feeling towards roses. Cut-roses sadden me, but if they are on the bush and not cut, then they do not. So go ahead and add them to my hypothetical "If I DID allow myself to have a favorite flower, the candidates would be:" list also.
I digress though. This was actually suppose to be a post containing the new photographs I've recently taken. Not about why flowers are depressing.
The photographs are of flowers though, so you can see why I'd go in that direction with it...
Now, I've always liked looking at photographs of flowers, and it turns out I like taking photographs of flowers too. I really cannot explain why, given the fact flowers depress me and all. My issue with flowers must be very, very complex apparently.
Do You Mind It was more of a community. People made videos for fun, because they enjoyed it. But in today's You-Tube, the momentum has switched over to making videos for fame and profit. There's nothing wrong with that of course. If people want to make money, fine. Because You-Tube is such a huge company, they need to create a constant flow of revenue, and therefor will promote the You-Tube users who are bringing in the cash. Again, that's just fine.
But the filmmakers and vloggers who provide great content --that don't want to play the popularity game and aren't in it for profit-- they are being dismissed.
On one side, yes, you could say You-Tube owes the little guys nothing. And at the same time, I don't want to see You-Tube become totally consumed by commercialism. I want to see top notch filmmakers and vloggers get the recognition they deserve for the content they provide. I'm tired of the homepage being filled with videos about "giveaways if you subscribe to our channel, comment, and don't forget to thumbs up this video!"
AndrewBravener is a You-Tuber I have been following for quite a while now. Support it best I could.
Here is what I made:
In case anyone has trouble following along with how this video of mine has anything at all to do with You-Tube and the points Andrew made, I have provided a few brief notes.
*Ahem*
Hugh, the noble hero is of course, metaphorically speaking, the "YOU" in You-Tube.
The wee folk represent all the little guys of You-Tube. Who wish only to do what they find joy in, and share that creativity with others.
Planet Zube is You-Tube itself.
Professor Pain and Nurse Venom have no significant meaning. I made them up some time ago, and thought they would work appropriately in this story. That is all.
The Adlaicremmoc! The name itself is derived from combining the words "Ad" and "Commercial" backwards. The Adlaicremmoc represents all the commercialism found on You-Tube, and the game it has become.
But together, Hugh and all the wee folk rise up to put the YOU back into You-Tube! And then balance is restored to the Galaxy once more...
Okay, that last note is more like wishful thinking. But still.
An "Educational" Film About Snow
Where did snow come from?
What is snow?
Why is snow cold?
This "educational" short film contains the answers to these questions, and more!
It was that, or "Archibald" for Cary Grant (do I really need to explain that one?)
I've been extremely pleased with the amount of detail I'm able to capture when using Frank (because before, I would use my camcorder, Oliver, who wasn't in the least bit enthusiastic about taking photographs. We'd argue about this a lot. "I'm a camCORDER, not a camera. There IS a difference.")
Anyhoo, the following photographs are from my latest ventures outside. Oh, and here's a nice little tip... don't EVER take marbles outside with the idea that you will scatter them about the top of the snow, and they will ignore the laws of gravity and not actually fall through the snow. Doing so will leave you there, looking dumbfounded at the tiny holes left in the snow, as you think to yourself "Gee, I thought for sure that would have worked." Yes, I have moments when I lose my marbles. Pun intended.
And here is my first film of 2011!
For one, I'm working on another Detective Poy script.
Second, there is one film I've been meaning to make since the summer of last year. It's a musical, and I'd like to have it completed sometime in the following months.
And third, just in general, I hope to be more productive this year. Hopefully improve on my craft... I want to thank everyone whom has been kind enough to take an interest in my work. It really means a lot to me.
May this year bring everyone happiness, health and prosperity.
This is the post that started it all:
http://wilwheaton.typepad.com/wwdnbackup/2010/12/merry-smurfin-christmas-mothersmurfers.html
I am an avid follower of Wil Wheaton, who among other things such as being a writer and all around awesome, has played Wesley Crusher in Star Trek the Next Generation, and has recently made appearances on The Big Bang Theory as EVIL Wil Wheaton, the nemesis of Dr. Sheldon Cooper. For future references, I am an avid follower of both these shows.
Now that we have established somewhat of a back-story *ahem* On his blog, which can be found by the link above, Mr. Wheaton had asked for a caption for this one particular picture of him surrounded by seven toy Smurfs in Santa hats. I decided to write a rhyme, and quite a long one. Then once finished, I spontaneously decided it needed to be made into a video, this video. And there you have it, "Seven snug Smurfs wassailing with winsome Wil Wheaton"!
Happy Holidays to everyone, and thank you kindly for viewing!
I've tried a few here and there, but none of them stuck.
This sort of process a person cannot just rush.
Then one night, something clicked
and I had a sudden urge to draw a jellyfish.
I'd like to introduce everyone to Jolly.
No reason to be wary, this Jelly is alright.
He's gleeful and cheery. Oh golly, what a sight!
Neil Sedaka!
His music is filled with such joyful goodness, and he himself appears to be such a genuinely happy person... a quality I love.
This was done back in April... I put it down and walked away, as I had the intentions of later adding more to it... "the stages of Neil" 'twas going to be. First, and as you see here, the Tra la la la la 50's-60's Sedaka... Then I had wanted to add the 1970's comeback, and of COURSE that snazzy 1980's stage, etc. However, instead of doing that, the drawing ended up just sitting in my sketch book. So I decided might as well put it up as is... and that I can always draw the other stages of Sedaka, separately, later on.
Memorial Day
Memorial Day... a time to remember.
May your spirit be filled with joy, and may you be able to spend the Holidays with those who are near and dear to your heart... and those loved who are gone, may you keep them close in the happiest of memories. Last but certainly not least, my thoughts, and support go out to our brave men and women in uniform who won't be home for Christmas.
....
On another note, thought this would be a good time to re-introduce the film I made almost a year ago, which is also the first I had ever uploaded to TheMarchStudios on You-Tube. The families wonderful cat, Huckleberry decided so kindly to take down the Christmas tree... I had decided to film the process.
